Michigan football vs. Texas score today: Live updates, highlights

michigan vs texas

Even though it's September, college football playoffs are already underway.

9th No. In one of the most important nonconference games of the 2024 football season, Michigan football welcomes No. 3 Texas at the Big House. The defending national champions, Michigan, are hoping to maintain their position as the best team in college football and their home winning streak, which goes back to the 2020 campaign. To declare themselves as the top team in the country right away, the Longhorns are aiming for a spectacular road victory.

After the Huskies defeated the Longhorns in the semifinals, Michigan faced Washington in the national championship game last year, although the two teams were almost matched up. However, the Wolverines did not have to wait long to get an opportunity in a crucial game against the Longhorns.

Fox will air the game starting at noon. For real-time updates from Michigan Stadium, scroll below.

13:23, 2Q: Michigan gets on board with FG; Texas leads 7-3

For Michigan's attack, the second possession was significantly superior to the first. After three first downs and 55 yards gained on the nine-play drive, the Wolverines were stopped at the Texas 19-yard line, forcing Dominic Zvada to settle for a 37-yard field goal. Donovan Edwards opened the scoring for the Wolverines with a first-down run. Edwards then found C.J. Charleston for a 22-yard connection over the middle on a flea flicker, and Edwards nearly broke for a house call on a 14-yard run.

4:14, 1Q: Texas takes 7-0 lead with Gunnar Helm TD catch

The Longhorns' second trip to the end zone will stand this time. After forcing a quick three-and-out on Michigan's first offensive possession, Texas quickly went 56 yards and punched in the first touchdown of the game. The drive started with a 22-yard gain by Helm on a play-action look over the middle that duped Michigan's linebackers, followed by a trio of runs up the middle.

Then, Ewers dropped back to pass on second down from the Michigan 21, climbed the pocket to avoid pressure off the edge and fired an on-the-move strike to Helm over the middle. Helm was wide open behind Michigan's safeties and high-pointed the pass to go up 7-0.

8:58, 1Q: Texas misses FG on opening drive

Texas received the ball first and went on a lengthy drive that lasted 13 plays, burning six minutes off the clock. With a 33-yard completion to Isaiah Bond on third down, the Longhorns crossed into Michigan territory. Bond outran cornerback Jyaire Hill with a double move on the sideline and then scored another first on a bubble screen. Quinn Ewers, the quarterback, broke out of the pocket to score a touchdown on third down from the Michigan 24 but the points were nullified by a holding call against Cameron Williams, the right tackle. To keep the game 0-0, Texas kicker Bert Auburn just pushed the 43-yard attempt wide right.

Big House nearly full 25 minutes before kickoff

For the greatest game of the season thus far, fans made sure to be at their seats early. Twenty-five minutes before start, both teams were heading back to their locker rooms following warmups, and the stands were almost full. Although there is a sizable Texas representation, Michigan supporters have eliminated the orange by wearing Maize-out. Tim Hardaway Jr. of the Detroit Pistons is among the prominent Michigan alumni making appearances, and ESPN's "College Gameday" is situated on the edge of the Texas sideline.

During warm-ups, starting quarterback Davis Warren led the squad once more, and the Wolverines' starting offensive line included the same five players.
